Hi everyone. I love Turtles (although I don't currently keep any). I go hiking in a local nature preserve where they have Painted Turtles and Snapping Turtles. They have even found Red Eared Sliders although they are not native to the area, I guess a result of people releasing pets over the years. Usually I see the Painted's basking on logs in the ponds and have to use my binoculars to see them. But yesterday I found this little beauty basking right on the side of the trail! I was so excited to finally see one up close. I took several photos then put her back where I found her. I do want to get some pet turtles but would not feel right taking them from the wild. A friend of a friend might be giving me a Red Eared Slider and an African Mud. I'm very excited. It's not a for sure thing yet, I'm still waiting to hear. Well, here are some of the pics I took of the wild Painted...
He/she had very sharp claws. I lost a bit of skin during the photo shoot!

The bottom of her shell was a pretty rusty color

I think I liked her more then she liked me!

When I put her back down she just walked at a normal pace back towards the water. Hope you enjoyed the pics!
