Beardie With An Attitude

Nicky-Dee Jul 04, 2004 11:18 AM

I’ve had my beardie for over a year now and I got him when he was a baby. When he was little I kept handling to about every other day and as he got bigger moved it up to every day for short periods of time. He never seemed to like being handled much but didn’t show aggression. I’ve always hand fed him as well. Within the past week and a half his behavior has totally changed. He is very aggressive. He displays his beard, gaps his mouth open, and flattens his body out when I walk into the room. He never did this before. When I hold him, he is always focused on my face no matter how I hold him and he is always displaying his beard and gaping his mouth open. Within the past couple of days he has taken to trying to jump out of my hand to bite me. He even acts aggressive when I try to hand feed him even though I’ve hand fed him every day since I’ve had him. This behavior started fairly recently. Is he just going through a phase that he will grow out of or am I one of the unlucky to get an aggressive beardie? Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me he is in 'mating' mode. Being a year old he is probably all full of testosterone and trying to scare away his 'competition' (ie you). Or just being extra territorial. I suspect after a few weeks or month he will calm down and be his usual self.

Thanks, that gives me hope.
