temperature dilemna

Mizar 21 Jul 04, 2004 12:09 PM

Summer is here and the temp climb ! I have two basking spot for my enclosure (3x1) one 100w and a 50w, should i close one of these two ? In the hotest spot it can climb to a 105 if not more. My problem is that if i close one of these light, my collared take that as a sign that night is coming and he goes to hiding for sleeping, lol. Right now he seem to dont have a problem with the heat cause he's more active than ever. During the hottest day his cold spot is about 90...Since they are desert lizard can they cope with these hot temp ? Any hint is welcome !

Hi Mizar, 100 - 105 is what it should be in your basking areas.

Mine also rises abit in summer, in the afternoon sometimes gets to 110 degrees, but thats usually when they will go under a rock for the hottest part of day !

Also you said your cool spot is 90 is this to hot ?
NO matter of fact, the rest of the tank should be high 80's to 90

So hes fine ! Collareds like the heat! get some pics, ya bum, I know you have a camera now, hehehehehe LOL
