Hi I have a new blood python and its pretty snappy I know they are by nature to be tempermental and sometimes calm with age. One thing is how do I tame them do I just go ahead handle them with care and gentling with my hands or should I get gloves and start with that till I am more cofident to hold it with my bare hands?

If you just got the animal you should wait a week or so to start handling as it can stress them. If there very nasty I would advise starting with gloves and eventually take them off when you feel comfortable. Do handling sessions for about 15 min or so, and always make sure it ends on a good note. Good luck with your new guys, welcome to the wonderful world of bloods!

Not to long ago I was looking at a baby blood to buy, he struck me a few times and musked me...one of the guys that worked there came over and tried to show me how to tame him. His way of taming this little boy was to keep tapping him on the head until he got tired of stricking!! I felt bad for the poor little blood. I'd like to see the guy trying that technique with a full grown blood!

.. you should have started smacking him on the forehead every time he tapped it and asked him how it felt.. some pet shops are ok, and some aren't but all the animals are typically overpriced non the less

no way to handle a high tempered blood. that will just make them even more stressed out and make them even more aggressive. I want a real deal way of doing it.

Dunno how that one happened... anyways try the method I told you about. Some people have put socks or acticles of clothing to get the blood used to their scent, but I've never had to go to this extreme.

I got lucky at a show i went to when i got my blood. I was bitten by every blood in the house but the one that i decided on. The deciding factor had nothing ot do with his temperment, but with his coloration and health. i was actually a little wary that he DIDNT try to bite me, because the shy ones tend to not eat or be sick. Luckily, he came around and began eating without problems. He has a decent temp now, but i named him Hiss for a reason
