To the 1st conda thread

eunectes4 Jul 04, 2004 02:16 PM

While reading that thread it started to make my stomach turn over to see that this forum is starting to look like some of the others out there. With the single line of communication its hard to see how people are saying things...I add these : ). I, Im sure as well as many other, love anacondas and enjoy every second. My post about their high maintenance was only to make someone who just wants a big snake think twice about which to choose. If anyone is dedicated, it is well worth it. I really did not want a following on that post saying they agree with my post...and follow it up by saying someone might not be ready. I understand where everyones intentions were and it is a good idea to give possitive and negative aspects of an animal. I mentioned college only because I know first hand it is a hard deal to play (dorms dont like anacondas (you have to write papers about keeping dangerous pets in closed quarters) and apartments are difficult to move into each year after you find someone who will let you split rent with pythons and anacondas (they never paid anyway). I feel terrible that I think my post sparked the thread it did (go back and read it again...I still feel my comments were in no way offensive, but somehow it lead to a lot of people getting offended). Sorry to make this corny post but I really liked this forum due to the respect each person has in their posts and there is not the "fighting" like other ones and I hope it can stay that way.

People really do need to think before getting a anaconda, they are high maintenance. They are not a snake that one should just go out and buy just because they "look cool". As some of you know I have both yellow and green anacondas. The yellow anacondas I didnt worry to much about because they dont get really that big, even if they did get big I could handle a 10-12 footer cage wise(space). I wasnt sure I was ready for a green...The pure potental size is and can be very scary. I rent my house so if I move would I have the same space as I do now?? I wont get a snake that I wont be able to have enough space for there caging. When I finally did get my green I had to make double sure it was a male for size because they arent as big as females, not that Im scared of females it just I cant ensure that 3 years from now Ill have enough space to properly hold one. When I do buy my house and build a proper snake cage then and only then will I get a female green. In my opinion WAY too many people are getting the true giant snakes that cant properly care for them. They may still live with there parents, go to collage or rent houses. People need to stop and look at the long term care of these snakes and stop buying them just because they "look cool". There Im done and now Ill shut up, this was just my opinion.

I keep 5 out of 6 of the largest snake species in the world i have both yellow and green anacondas, retics, burms, and african rock pythons,i even plan on getting austrailian amethystine pythons A.K.A scrub pythons to go for all 6 but i didnt start out with big snakes it takes years of pratice with smaller snakes and tons of research to get into the large snakes then as Eric said do you have enough room for all of them most of my large constrictor are still either babies or arent completely grown yet and i just bought a new house to have enough room for their adult sizes caging these large snakes takes a lot of money then you have to consider the cost of feeding snakes like anacondas thats not a cheap job either also these snakes have good days and bad days just like a human does and a 20 foot snake having a bad day isnt something that is pleasant to deal with large snakes rarely ever shed their skins in one complete shed and they normally arent too happy about anyone trying to help them to get it off so keeping large constrictors is something you have to be very dedicated too and take lots of planning before you just jump into it keeping them isnt something that just anyone can do not many people are cutout for such high maintenance snakes i bought mine because i just absolutley love them they are beautiful and if you plan ahead for caging and feeding cost and have the experience to work with them it is a true pleasure and very rewarding and it really angers me that the ones of us who know what these snakes take and who are in it for the long haul get a bad reputation because a bunch of retarded little punks go out and let these snakes escape or get themselves eatten it reflects badly on the whole hobby in general i mean personally i dont see how someone can lose something that is twenty feet long or more

I only hope you guys aren't directing those comments toward me since you were referencing my post.

DUDE, calm down. I am sure those comments were not directed at anyone...just stating how the world is and how too many people get these snakes for wrong reasons and are not ready. I however was making the post TOWARD you and the person you got in the little online quarrel with. I hate to see people making attacks and offending one another so I wanted to restate myself and encourage people to read my original post to you again and see how I in now way ment to offend you. I never tried to put your business and life choices on here but you stated you are 18 (graduate high school time...lots of people go to college). I have gotten caught with snakes in the dorms..I have had trouble finding apartments on campus that will allow snakes. I moved them year after year while my collection grew. Its a pain. Just pointing that out because if you were to do the same thing I did and staring the process with a green anaconda...it would be much worse getting friends to carry a 200 lb female to your new dorms room or apartment without someone catching you.

I did not mean for that last post to come out as rough as it did. I just don't enjoy being insulted. Apologies if I offended you. I really don't mean to offend and I tihnk I see now you were speaking mostly of people in general and after reading that post about the person just kind of randomly getting a conda for his birthday. Just letting off steam after dealing with customers all day long.

Alright..this is getting rediculous. I dont know if you have me confused with another person but I never made any of those posts about housing and you being able to afford cages or whatever. I was the person who got upset the person that said that said they were agreeing with me when I never said that. I was sticking up for you when people started saying those things (I dont like it either). My response was in how you and that member reacted afterward and how I (as well as others in here that use this forum daily) do not want to see this get like some of the forums where people argue and fight. Besides, if anyone tries to act all smart and know it all in here...Renee can always come in and correct you since she knows more about anacondas than anyone (I put Renee and Jesus together since they work together : )..). Honestly, I did not even know what you were talking about in the post before your appology...my calm down was because it just seems like you are taking everything as a hit at you and it really isnt..i think your response indicated you are seeing that now and i hope that is true.

PS. DUDE is acceptable languange when talking around anaconda people...and its all about context...trust me that if you stick around here long enough, you will see it is quite alright : )
