I got some collareds

reptilefreak16 Jul 04, 2004 05:33 PM

Hey Everyone,

I keep a wide variety of geckos and a chameleon pair.

Yesterday i was given two texas collareds and a bearded dragon because a friend of mine no longer had the time for them. He said that they hadnt eaten in over a week because well he hadnt fed them.I fed them and cleaned the cage and today they are alot more active then when i observed them at his home. But i do need to know a few things.

Can they be housed in sand?/(yes i know the worst question to ask) He kept them in sand but when i took them i immediatley put them on newspaper.

What fruits can they be fed??He said he fed them berries

I think thats it, but if you have any other sort of input, advice or anything that has worked with your collareds please let me know.

Thanks

Sure is nice you are taking some UNWANTED collareds and a beardie and giving them a home.

First hope you are not housing the beardie with the collareds.
But being a reptile guy already I'm sure you know that.

Alot of us (I do too) keep them on washed playsand from HomeDepot
The collareds are mainly bug eaters. I do try veggies and some tiny peices of fruits, some eat a smidgin, some will not touch any of it except for bugs.

Your new beardie however, will eat all sorts of greens, and fruits, as well as crickets and superworms.

For the collareds, Temps 100 - 105 for basking, and high 80's to 90 in the rest of tank. And uvb needed also

Water in shallow saucer or let it drip from above down onto a rock if they wont drink from the saucer.

Anything else just holler, we love talkin collareds, and I have a beardie too.

If you need some more info here are 2 very good sites for care info and pics

Good luck, let us know how they do. And post some pics of your new guys !

If you had visited the leopard forum, talking about sand as a substrate sure is risky, lol. I kept my leopard on tile and my collared on washed playsand for a couple of years without ANY problem at all. My collared love to dig in the sand making it flew all over the place. By the way yesterday i found why he dig so often, he found mealworms in there !!! When i give him mealies, some escape, then turn into bugs and these bug make mealies...lol. I have a whole reproduction cycle in there ! They have plenty of room to hide .

Thanks for the replys. You guys are all really friendly.lol. Some other forums are like cutthroat. But i do now know that i need a uvb light cause i know he never had one. And i dont know how long hes had them or how old the Are. He had them in orange sand , calci sand, and it turned them orange, there water dish was filled half way with sand. And he did put the bearded in with them for like a day or two. I know the other beardie he had died within the last week so there is probobly a disease or somethin. So i am watchin for signs of impaction and other things.

They are all in a separate room because i dont want them in with my healthy lizards.

Im gonna try to get pics a little later on to show you guys them. I have noticed they are all very active compared to before when i viewed them at his house. so that is a possitive.

thanks again
