Boiga dendrophila - so...chicks or quail???

deathstalker Jul 04, 2004 07:25 PM

Someone please respond; no one did the first time. My pair of Boiga dendrophila are 4-4 1/2 ft long, so if you recommend quail, please specify the age: 1 day, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week, 6 week, or 8 week. Thanks.

Hi, I don't feed birds to mine (they are all mouse eaters) so i really can't advise you.

Deathstalker,

It's okay to go with quails although I prefer feeding mine with rodents.

Off-hand, I'd say that 1-2 week old quails should be fine (I can't correlate quail sizes to their ages)so long as the prey size is appropriate.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Francis

I dont personally have experience, but I plan to get a pair soon. I was told by the breeder that feeding larger quantities of smaller prey works best. They said "a cup of fuzzies for a 4 foot snake", so I would start with smaller (younger) quail and if they take them, get several more so that they get enough in a feeding.

I also read another post where someone said to dip mice in chicken broth to get a bird sent on it. That may help you get them to eat fuzzies. I dont know if it works or not, someone elses suggestion.

Fuzzies will definitely be too small for a 4ft mangrove. At that size, they can eat adult mice/sub-adult rats.
