I take my snake out and let him all over my room. Now, my room is pretty much spotless and I'm a neat freak.(for those who would say they have a risk indoors as well) But no way would I ever take my snakes outside. I really worry about the bug issue too. I know I have chiggers around my house, so there's no way I'm letting my snakes near them. Plus no need to get pissed off neighbors (no clue whether they would be pissed off/scared/intrigued(sp) )

There is a slight chance of mites getting on them but I believe it is a minimal risk and well worth. My boas really enjoy getting out of the house and exploring. I think you would be surprised at some of their behaviors. As far as tick and chiggers, I believe that would be highly unlikely.

I know how you feel. Its not the insects so much as the chemicals that are used on the grass these days. Everyone is always trying to make their lawns thicker with grass with less weeds (me included).

But you cant beat natural sunlight for taking good pictures (at least I havent found the secret). What I did was cut down a piece of waffer board to 4x3' and covered it in felt. Then I take that outside to set my boas on to take pics.
You will probably need a little bigger board for adult boas. I havent tried this with any of my adults yet.

Hope this helps

What if you built an outdoor averiary thingy for them, screen sides branches etc and up off the ground, no hawks could get to him even.

You can control pests in your backyard. I prefer the granule type of pestcide that has to be watered in (seems to be more effective to me.) I don't take my snakes outside for a week and at least two hard rains after applying, and I never feed outside. I believe my boas really enjoy their time outside, as a matter of fact, my 6 foot female only "goes" outside. Since February '02 she has not "gone" in her tank (4x2x2 Neo.)Now, your neighbors....
