As long as you can maintain the proper temperatures with the UTH or CHE, and you have some ambient light coming in your windows (so they know when it's day and night), you do not need a light in the cage. Unless its needed for supplemental heat, the red light is for you, not the geckos. They'll do just fine without it.

Look at their eyes - they're primarily nocturnal. Those peepers don't see like a hawk so they must be mostly for night vision. Look at an anole or an iguana's eye. You'll notice that even though they move about during the day, they're much more active at night.
