update on Scout, need some advise

kimberlee Jul 05, 2004 08:54 AM

Hi all!
So I'm giving Scout oral antibiotics every other day, and eye goop 3 times a day. His eyes look much better, he can open them! But they are still droopy and weepy. As for the mouth rot, it looks better on the outside, not sure about the inside. I have to pry his mouth open to give him the antibiotics, so I get a quick glimps in there. I do think its better. Problem is now, he's not eating. He's wasting away to skin and bones! The vet said I could force feed him, but how? What do you all do? I even try offering wax worms, I figure they're easier to swallow (not so sharp and pokey!) and tons easier to catch. He looks at them, but not interested. Should I pry his mouth open and put a small one down? I know they're not as vitamin packed as a cricket, but they're calories and fat. Let me know!
Thanks.

AHHH thats a shame,

I would use a syringe the tube part of course.

Or a dropper, and get baby food, infants in the jars, Chicken and veggies, squash, anything with high protien

full the dropper and squeeze into his mouth a few times a day , slowly , dont choke him!

And while your buying the baby food, same isle, baby petylite, a high energy type liquid (kinda like our gatorade)
You can also use that, to keep him energized with what he needs.

others may have more to say ! But thats usally what we do!

Keep us updated on Scott, hope he feels better. Glad his little eyes are open.. I would think they are droopy because of the medicine, and lets face it hes been feeling pretty bad.

We dont look our best either when sick , heheheh

Eve;s suggestions sound great to me. Don't give any more than 1-1.5mLs of baby food at a time at first. If he is keeping that down you could increase from 2x a day to 3x a day, but keep the amount each time small., PLace the syringe tip beyond the mouth (at base of throat). I am a huge fan of Pedialyte. I use it a lot on any animal that seems dehydrated or not interested in eating. Offer like water from an eyedropper or syringe. Keep us updated!

Oh, mix a little bit of vits and minerals with the baby food.
