California X Sonoran Kingsnake

EdzPhatNugz420 Jun 20, 2003 06:18 PM

This afternoon,I purchased a new snake from a local pet shop. I've never seen a California X Sonoran Kingsnake before and pet shops sometimes label the snakes incorrectly. I don't see any Sonoran similarities, so if you could take a look at the picture attached and let me know what you think. Thanks a lot.

I'm not a big fan of hybrids but I must say, that is a truly beautiful snake. I have always wondered what a pyro crossed with a cal king would look like.

Looks like a cross between a Desert King (Splendida) and a California King. This is not necessarily a hybrid, but a natural intergrade since the territories each snake occupies overlap.

Nice looking snake though.

I think I agree with Lattiser on this one. It looks like a California Kingsnake x Desert Kingsnake Intergrade. Here is a picture of one I hatched last year:

Thanks guys, my snake looks almost exactly like JDM's California x Desert pic. I'm convinced, the guys at the pet shop I went to must not know there own snakes.

Looks to me like they know. Desert kings are often referred to as Sonorans also.......as in the Sonoran Desert King. I'm having trouble getting your pic to come up, but the other posted is a nice example. It looks like what is also know as a Yuma King. Yumas, at one time, had sub-specific statis, but were later added to Cal. kings as just another locale. In my unwanted opinion, I think they are the most beautiful of the cal kings.

I'd rather see a picture of those PhatNugz. Great name.
