I got mine at 91/2 inches long as a baby (2 1/2 weeks old). he grew to 47 1/8"s and 11 lbs in one year. You were informend wrong . Here is a picture of my tegu and I . They grow very fast if fed correctly.so your tegu will be 3'-4.5' when it is done growing, if it has not been dwarfed. Which means not fed correctly.Hope this helps Russ

Feed your Tegu? Could you give me an idea of what you feed and fed that big boy on a daily or weekly basis....Would you say your tegu grew a little faster than normal? I have a basic question also....Once your tegu is big enough to eat mice and rats...would it be acceptable to stop feeding it crickets? I have cruised through the forum and i have not seen much info on feeding roaches to Tegus, whats the lowdown on that foodsource? I guess i have more than one question...LOL!! Once fullgrown what do you feed your Argentine and how often? Last what have you done in an attempt to potty train so you can let the Tegu roam the house freely without staining the carpet or whatever...

p.s. I love that picture it seems to be the biggest tegu shown on the forum, congradulations on a job well done.

p.p.s. I included this pic as an offering to all of you who read and/or answer this post, thanks. (not my snake)

Ok. I feed him crickets ,kingworms twice a day ,till he was full. once he could eat a hooper size mouse I fed him crickets till he stoped chasing them 8-10 mounths old. I think he ate 12 mice in one week one time.I would say above normal growth rate.He eats every 4 days now.I dont let him free roam . I have a female Rottie and a 20 mounth old son, so free roaming is not a opption. I have a out doore cage that is 12'-4 1/2' wide -5' tall for my two adult tegus during the spring, summer and fall on the right days(not to hot and not to cold60-75degress.)I also have a indoore cage that is 8'-4'-3'tall on half and2' tall on the other. Also there is a 4'-2'-2' hide box burrow that I attched to it for them .I hope this helps Russ

16 inches probably isn't even a year old assuming some sort of regular diet. With mine, as soon as I started them on pinks, raised them to hoppers and other size mice, growth hasn't stopped. Good luck with that. You'll need a pretty large enclosure. A visit with that same petshop may be in store for you calling him on his BS.
