Mali Help again

markseelos805 Jul 05, 2004 05:39 PM

I Purchased a Mali Uromastyx at the West Coast reptile show from Montezumas Reptiles 2 weeks ago. I think there might be a problem because he has not been eating and will sleep continuously until i wake him up. I thought he ate lettuce, but it turns out that it just wilted. The only thing that I've seen him eat in 2 weeks is 3 meal worms and 1 small peice of collard. I even gave him strawberries with his greends today. This has been going on almost ever since i got him. I'm feeding him right: Dandelion, Collard, and Mustard greens. Heating and lighting him right . I have a half log for refuge, wood to climb on and I provide food every day. His color is getting lighter and I do not know what is going on. Tell me I'm not just paranoid.
Please help,
Mark

If you have been keeping up with the Buddy story then I won't repeat myself. The only thing I suggest is get him/her to a vet get a fecal check and then whatever treatment is needed. My Mali was so skinny that the vet put him on Credical Care food and I had to force feed him (what a job) Now he is starting to eat on his own. He settled in and is getting use to the way we do things ie: feeding cleaning go outside. We go to the vet next week and I'll see if he has gained any weight. Keep us posted and good luck.

mark, i once had a beautiful red saharan who did not eat for almost 2 weeks. i had her for 4 months. in the beginning she ate. for whatever reason she stopped eating but retained her gorgeous red coloring. i thought she was maybe brumating or still acclimating somewhat as her color did not change. i then thought that no food for 2 weeks was not good. after a three day stay at the vet, injections and meds and almost $400 bill she did not make it. i'm not trying to scare you with my story but just to let you know that if you wait to seek out a vet, as i did, the result may not be a good one. hopefully your story is different from mine and the doc can help out! make an appointment as soon as you can. good luck and hope alls well!

My Mali, Ares, likes sleeping a lot, sometimes he'll go out and bask on his own but I find that if I remove the place he hides under *usually his food dish, or this little cave I got him* he'll go out and bask. Try giving him wax worms or red leaf lettuce, even crickets, the thrill of the hunt might just be enough to get him going. If all that fails Flukers makes an omnivore Medicine, its a powder you mix with water. It gives you a syringe, spoon, and a little measuring cup. If you can't get him to eat go out and get that. It helps them adjust to their new environment and it gives them the vitamins and nutrients that they need.
