Need help with my new gecko...

restlesswind444 Jul 05, 2004 07:37 PM

Ok, on friday I received a new gecko in the mail, he was sold to me for $200 (over triple what I paid for my second most expensive one), as a definite male. It was hatched on 3-4, which would mean that by now at 4 months he should have pores and bulges right? But I see NOTHING AT ALL. I dont want another female because I have 5 and only had $200 set aside that I wanted to spend on a male. I would say that I'm 95% sure it is a female, anything else I could do besides look to be certian? Any other suggestions?

Thats what im asking, will a male gecko who is only 4 months old and below 30g try to mate a female?

My guess is probably not. It's still a pretty young gecko, and doesn't sound like it's full grown yet, so if it is a male it might not be too interested in breeding. But that doesn't mean you can't give it a shot as long as you know it's not sick or carrying parasites or anything.(you don't want to get the other sick wether its a male or a female!)
I think you are right about the sex though. At the geckos size and age it should be showing pores and buldges, even if it is not totally mature. If I was you I'd get my money back or a new gecko!

I wouldnt be so sure because one of my leos I got him when he was around 4 months old showed no pores or bulges and as he got older like around 6 or 7 months starting showing pores and slight bulges. Now he has bulges and pores and is deffinately is a male. But since you need a male get your money back and get a deffinate male.

Do not put this leo with your others!!! Quarantine the gecko for at LEAST 3 weeks. Try for 30 days if you can. This gecko is probably younger /smaller than the others, which is one more reason NOT to put them together. Your gecko may still be developing & will show his "stuff" once he matures, at 4 months he is not mature & you shouldn't try to mate him.
