I need advice on 2 new Collareds

MrHobby Jul 05, 2004 08:29 PM

I recently picked up 2 Collareds from a local PetsMart. I thought I was purchasing a male and a female. I housed them together for the first 2 weeks. During this time, they had a huge appetite, eating 5-10 crickets each. One of the collareds became dominant over the other and that was when I realized that I had 2 males. I separated them and that was when the eating habits changed. They will eat 1 cricket a day, sometimes 2. Their environments are set up right with the proper temps. Any ideas why the change in eating habits? Are they eating less because they are no longer competing for food? Has anyone else seen this?
Also, one of the lizards has injured his nose by jumping into the cage lid and everything else he can run into! I have changed the lid to prevent further injury, but his nose does not seem to be healing. Any advice will be helpful! Thanks

I'm not sure about the change in eating but it could be the competition thing.

Neosporin works pretty good for sore noses. You will have to apply it often since it rubs off when the lizard is jumping into stuff.
