sunset boas....

TenorGoddess Jul 05, 2004 11:03 PM

Alrighty, I've only recently heard this term. ;D

Is my understanding correct:
hypo/hogg boa x hypo/hogg boa = a percentage of offspring will be "sunset boas"

What do these look like. Has anyone made these lovely sounding boas yet?

Hugs!

genetics. It's my understanding that they would all be "Sunsets".
The problem, as I see it, is the fact that the originator of the line was initially very evasive about the background of this line.
My thought is that the price tag is way to high considering that they are produced using relatively common boas, hoggs and hypos, to produce them.
I have seen them selling for up to $12,000...Ridiculous.

My comment in the subject line was because we went through this topic about a month ago. No offense intended.

I believe you're correct about the sunset genetics. The originator of that name lives nearby in MA not to far from me here in NH. I'm pretty certain the breeder of your recent Hogg aquisition is doing a sunset project as well. I know he has an outrageous pair of hypo hogg crosses he's working with which can be seen at his website. That's the source I'd go with providing the prices are reasonable. Frankly though I'd do it myself since you've already got what it takes to make them. It will take some time and patience that's all.

do it all myself. I prefer to have the actual animals so I can not only eventually make the babies I'm after, but also have the adults I've always dreamed of adding to my collection. I love hoggs, hypos, etc...so I'd much rather have them and make my own DH babies and keep that going so I still have my hypos and hoggs to drool over. LOL!

No offense taken sweetie.
Had a rough month last month so chances are, I didn't see the posts. I didn't really get to start posting until just thereafter (when I finally quit my job, woot!).

I do have to agree with the price being ridiculous. It just doesn't seem to make sense, but then again, if someone were to explain to me why the price was to be so high, I'd understand it better, ergo, it wouldn't be ridiculous to me anymore. ;D hehe

I love to learn, love to teach and understanding is the key to both!

The Sunsets were from hypo x hog to hypo x hog to an F3 Hypo. The Sunsets also can change colors (light / dark) just like Hogs. Here's a link to my site. It has Sunsets, hypo x hogs, & VERY orange hogs....along with other boa morphs.

So just to clarify further:

Start out breeding a hypo to a hogg and then breed babies from these breedings (now your hypoxhogg crosses) together and the resulting offspring from those kiddos would then be bred back to a hypo to make sunset babies? So in effect, you're making these 50/50 split babies of hypos and hoggs, into a 75% hypo / 25% hogg offspring?

Interesting. Beautiful animal btw!!!!! wow!
