Boa land speed

lilbitlizz Jun 20, 2003 06:58 PM

This is an odd question, but my brother is good at those. He is utterly fascinated with my new boa, and he's an engineer, so he questions EVERYTHING. He just fires questions at me, and his lates was: What is a boa's average land speed? Hehe, I don't know if they have been clocked or even if anyone on this forum knows if they did.... But I thought I'd throw it out there. I'll warn you - it probably won't be the last odd question...

The world's fastest snake has been clocked at 11 mph, so the boa would probably be... a lot slower than that. Especially a big one. Snakes can't really move that fast overall, even though some of them seem to.
Now the STRIKE of a snake is a different matter althogether and usually can't be seen with the naked eye.
I suggest you conduct your own experiment. You'll need a stopwatch, a ruler, and a feather duster.
