She dug out all of the sand, right down to the tank's glass bottom in her cave. Then she dug out all of the sand from under a hollow log.

I am so excited that I am giddy

Thats what Hopi did, the day she laid, she removed the sand so she would have a flat place to lay, they stay in there or under, until they lay, then when done, they take all that sand and push it back on to the eggs and cover them in a mountain of it !! Anyway thats what I watched, then Hopi came out and ate 5-6 crickets right after. I felt bad taking the eggs while she was there so I moved her and let her run on the floor a few minutes, took the eggs and then piled the sand back into the pile she had made. And put her back, she kept making sure that sand stayed piled there all week, she would go under to her nest and keep putting sand higher and higher, so she thought they were still there ! :0( Kinda sad. Well, she did dig and dig and dig, then pile sand up over the places that she was digging when I went to bed last night. I read your post and had my son hold her while I checked the tank. all the places that she dug, there was sand piled up. I brushed the sand away very carefully and could not find anything. I am assuming she was practicing or maybe "false labor" he he he he

I re-wet the sand and put everything back and now she is basking.
Wow..... This is so wild! My son and I are so excited about this checking the tank was the first thing we did when we woke up this morning.

Thanks for you posts Eve. I would be a basket case otherwise...

providing a lay box for her?

breakfastatme Jun 21, 2003 08:46 AM

How would I do that? Would I still keep her in her tank?

Thanks

What is yours set up like Tiff? I use Bricks, in a corner of tank filled with 3-4 inches of damp sand with a piece of slate over the top, but a box with alid and a hole cute into the side, or whatever, so she can get in and out (filled with damp sand) yes, ya keep the laying box right in the tank, put her in a few times so she gets the idea, Both ways are fine, maybe JFeldner has more to add, or can explain in a better way LOL

maybe it is not appropriate. Here is a pic. I have a rock cave that I set up with a rock under the front and the back end, and put a pile of damp sand inside of it, so if she digs the sand out it will not settle and squish the eggs. That is what she dug all of the sand out of last night.

what do you think?
P.S. She hates the coconut in the back of the pic. Papi is in there all of the time.

I would say she is probably comfortable with the spot, but if she does not go in and continues to dig elsewhere you may want to try the box thing with a entry hole cut into it, or even the brick thing with a flat rock over top for seclusion. I have heard some people say that even with their nesting boxes all set up the female decided to lay somewhere else, LOL Just watch her and see if shes using the place you have for her, if not I would try the other methods. Oh and the digging means shes real close, but believe me you will know when has laid the eggs, she will look so much slimmer, no more bulgey-ness ! LOL

ha, ha...good luck Tiffany. If the lizard keeps digging in a certain area...be sure to wet that down too!

Thank you John!! I just checked her again and she looks ticked off..... so I am going to leaver her alone until morning.

I made sure that I wet down most of the sand in the tank, just before lights out.
