Pleco's and Turtles

turtlequest Jul 06, 2004 08:13 AM

I have 2 Res and a map turtle in the same tank, they are about the size of my palm. I was wondering if i can add one of those pleco fish that are bigger then the turtles? Im scared that all of my turtles will keep biting at it. They love to eat rosie reds, and im scared the pleco will have a fish scent and the turtles will think it is food.

Anyone know?

My opinion is if you put any fish in with turtles, plan on the fish being food at some point. Turtles that size could still take bites out of a large Pleco.

I have 2 RESes and 1 Map. My map doesn't even look at fish, but RESes love to chase them around. I have had one Pleco, since the day I have had RESes and they are used to him/her, but when I try to add new Plecos, one time, they ate one as soon as I put it there. Next day I found a part of him.

I just added two more plecos and added something for them to hide in. It seems to be working great.

I am no expert and learning a lot from this and other forums, but I think if you add fish that you don't want to be as food, then add something for that fish to hide in. I noticed plecos love to hide during the day.

Hope this helps.
