Redfoot maturity

I recieved a pair of red foot tortoises early this year and was wondering when they become sexualy mature?
the have a straight line length of about 6 inches and the male is constantly trying to mount the female, making some very strange sounds.
being a snake guy who got these in a trade deal, I have little knowledge of these guys other than what I have found in back issues of Reptiles magazine and the internet, I know from the ones I have seen in zoos that these two are hardly half grown.
so is this early mating attempts normal?

Hello Chris,

I also have two 6" redfoots. I'm not real sure if I have females or males! Could you send me pics of yours and/or I'll send you pics of mine?

They seem to be too small to me.. but I've only had breeding adults.. so not sure about 6" ones.
