Attempted Bath and Scheduled Vet Visit

Tarzana Jul 06, 2004 11:31 AM

Today I found a vet that treats exotics, and I made an appointment for tomorrow morning. The problem is that I have to bring "Racso" in. I feel really bad, because I can tell that he will eventually be a great beardie. So far he has readily accepted all the attention and things I have exposed him to. He seems to be a little un easy at first, but then once he trusts it he becomes very comfortable. He was just shipped last week, and now he has to ride 30 minutes in a car each way and get examined by a vet. I hope this doesn't affect his future trust in people, but right now it is very important to me that he is cleared of any parasites or other ailments he might have. Oh and another thing I tried to give him a bath today following the thing I read, and he wouldn't even let me put him in the water, he scratched and made noises. I tried to just gently make him sit in the water, but it wasn't happening. I think I'll just let him go to the vet dirty, and work on his batheing habits after this is all said and done. I'll hopefully have a sample tomorrow so he can get a fecal and I'll post the results. Thankyou, Kara

for BDs that are uncomfortable in water, try puting them in a tub where the floor is at an angle and slowly add water so they can go to the deep end or shallow end and get as much or as little water as they want.

Yup, that's how I did it. Mine was cautious at first, but then he took to it like a duck. Just make sure the water is lukewarm before putting the stopper in the drain. You wouldn't want to freeze or scald him.

You can also fill the bathtub and put in a rock that comes out of the water. Draconis loves to climb up on the rock then jump back into the water. I also got him trained in showers, which he thinks is a rainstorm.
He always tips his nose up in the air, moves away from the point where the water comes down, then ducks back under again for more water. He really trips me out!!

P.S. - You'll love it when they actually swim around, it's like Godzilla shrunk down!!!
