Hi,
I've hatched a thousand, maybe thousands, of hondurans, so i have a pretty good feel for what to expect. But I lack that background with pyros, having hatched maybe 50 before this year.
But i'm getting results i just don't understand. I posted some pix earlier of hypos, out of barczyk hypo stock, that are hatching extraordinarily pale--sort of pinkish/pale orange. You can find a pic or two of those farther down this forum.
Now i've hatched a baby that's equally pale, with a hypo-like light-brown head, from a pair that didn't come from brian's stock, so far as i know. I bought them at daytona a couple years ago, as yearlings, because the male was a nice orange. I've posted them here and shared pix with friends and the consensus has been that the "orange" male just represents the normal range of colors on pyro pyro.
But look at this pic, of what just hatched from that "orange" x "het" pair. This one baby is as pale and hypo-like as the hypos that came from the barczyk stock.
A couple possibilities:
--barczyk hypos hatch this light and will redden up (but mark petros says he produced one pale one like this last year and it hasn't reddened up yet, according to its current owner). And this possibility would still beg the question why i'm getting so many of them (at least four now, all the babies i can easily distinguish as hypos are this very pale pink color) when if i understood mark correctly, most of his hypos were "red" hypos, only one was similar to this pale color.
--or possibility #2---well, i'm sorta at a loss for another possibility! Maybe some pyros just hatch this light, and they become the orange ones in the normal range of coloration, and it's just coincidence mine have coincided with the hypos? But doesn't make sense--people i've talked to who hatched lots of pyros never reported anything like this to me. I still have a call in to brian trying to find out what his hypos have looked like at hatching, since i've seen them within a month of hatching and they looked normal "red".
HAS ANYONE HATCHED HUNDREDS and seen variation like this? Or is it reasonable to assume "normal" pyros do NOT look pale like this, ever, and that there's another explanation?
I'd appreciate your insights.
peace
terry
