Help! lizard picked up tape worms. . .

themaester Jun 20, 2003 07:13 PM

ok so you all may remember my juvie chacoan getting out for a month and me finding him a couple weeks ago, well i was going to take him to the vet, but he was eating great and nothing seemed wrong. . .well today i noticed some worms in his fecal matter. . . Pretty sure they are tape worms. . He must have picked them up while he was living outside. . Any way it gets worse , I leave tomorrow and am having a friend take care of him. . . So i cant get him to the vet today or tommorrow and i doubt my friend would be able to do so. . .SO does anyone know of any way to rid of the worms without going to the vet?. . and suggestions would be much appreciated! I really want the my little guy to get better!

nature zone has a product called worm guard i think thats the only product available for reptiles without going to a vet.

well i did find a friend that could take a fecal sample to the vet, do you think that tape worms are so serious that i should have my friend do this, or is the risk even higher taking medicine from the vet. In case he hasnt worked with much reptiles because Ive heard alot of storys about "supposed" exotic vets that ended up causeing the death of peoples reptiles!
thanks

well, i can pretty much guarentee they're not tape worms. same worms tend to stay in the intestines and grow as the host that they're feeding off of grows. humans have died and had up to 6 ft. long tape worms found inside they're intestines so i doubt that's what you're looking at.
