I need help

triad Jul 06, 2004 12:32 PM

I know this is a forum about Uromastyx, but I have a bearded dragon, 1 year old, and he got sick the other day. I was wondering if anyone knew someone who could answer my questions.

I don't have beardies, so I can't help. But have you tried the beardie forum? They would be more likely to have the knowledge you need. I didn't see your name there:

Ok, Hades is a year old *i got him August 2003*. I accidentally fed him superworms *I read on several different sites where it said superworms are fine, but they also didn't say only if he's more then 8" (body) and then only 1 small one*. He got sick and had like these seizure type thing happen to him where his arms and legs would like pulsate like all the muscles were spasiming *spelling?*. It lasted about 8 hrs, but then Saturday he was perfectly fine, so I gave him Flukers Medicine for sick omnivores. And now he's back to his normal self. Eating greens and wax worms.

Do you know what could have happened like if it was the super worms or did he just get sick?

wow! i have never heard of that. i feed my bearded dragon superworms and he is about 10 inches head to tail. that has never happend. do you give him a calcium powder or spray on his food? if not you should. mabe it is mbd. but i think you should take him to the vet. he may be fine right now but if it happens again you might not be so lucky.

i read that any food item should be no bigger then the space between the eyes or it can cause impaction and/or hind leg paralysis. i feed mine big crickets and super worms and never had a problem but now im going to do more research because i never heard that before. ill let you know what i find out

I usually calcium "dust" his crickets. Thats the first time it happened he had a couple of them so I think that maybe they were stopping up his insides and preventing him from fully digesting them. He's perfectly fine now. He's has almost 20 waxworms in the past 3 days. And some red leaf lettuce. He's pooping regularly, and it is starting to smell like Draco's *my older brother has a full grown bearded* poop. So everytime he goes to the bathroom I clean it up, the smell is unbearable.

He's doing everything normally now, heck, when I went to give him the waxworms he was so excited he kept scratching the glass to get to them when I was dishing them up lol.

Thanks for all of your help.
