Sanitizing Crayfish

psorensen Jul 06, 2004 02:17 PM

My little alligator snapper likes to eat crayfish that I buy for him at the pet store. I can catch crayfish at a local pond, but I want to be sure they are clean and won't give any diseases/worms to my snapper. Is there something I can do to sanitize these critters and at the same time keep them alive for feeding to my snapping turtle? Thanks,

The only way to sanitize them would be cooking them. The problem with feeding snaps live food is parasites. Most people will take their snaps to a vet once or twice a year for shots and the such... I do now, ever since my youngest common died from a mix of worms and intestinal blockage caused by them...
