I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I read the word "siphon" a lot when reading about water features in Dart Frog Vivariums and was wondering just how one "siphons" water out of a vivarium

I use one of those big turkey baseters and siphon out the water and then add new water.
true Siphoning is when you suck on one end of a hose/tube to creat a vaccume and the quickly move the tube from your mouth to a bucket to avoid swallowing any nasty water, and allow the water to flow nicely from the vivarium to the bucket below
you can also buy "siphon starts" at fish stores, so you dont have to do the whole mouth/tube thing! siphoning is very useful if you have a deeper pool of water that needs to be changed without removing the pool itself, other wise it can get a bit messy!

I use a kerosene siphon for a kerosene heater. It has a rigid tube on one side and a flexible tube on the other side of the bulb that you compress to get the siphon going. Works great, it's cheap and can be picked up at most hardware stores.
