I was at my local pet shop and they asked me to take home and care for a weak and i guess dying patternless leo. i took it home and it has only eaten two crickets. does anyone have any advice to get this gecko looking alive again?

Good for you for taking in a sick animal. If you can give more information on your set-up, and the leos symptoms, someone will be able to help you more. If you can, take it to a vet asap.

He is in a ten gallon with bed a beast and he is extreamly skinny in dusted the two crickets and have added an electrolize supplement to his water his eyes are usually half closed and he is not very active I need to get him back on his feet and healthy.

If he did eat the two crickets that's a pretty good sign. How many did you try to feed him? Also rememeber to take out any uneaten crickets, they will really stress out a sick gecko (they often bite the animal). Make sure the calcium powder you are using has vitamin D3 in it. Without D3 (or a UV light) the calcium is completely useless. Is he drinking water? If so, that is another good sign. What are his bowl movements like? Are his poops normal, runny, goey...? Does he poop at all? Is your bed-a-beast moist? if so, it shouldn't be. I would just take out the bed-a-beast and put in paper towel, at least until he is well again.

If he is very weak and lathargic (which it sounds like he is) I would really try to take him to a vet. There are many things he may have that would need to be treated before he can get better. He might have MBD, he might have parasites, he might be impacted... or it could even be a combination. If he isn't eating/drinking anything, try a bit of baby food (mixed with your calcium powder) on his lips. If he licks it off that's another good sign.

For now, untill you can get him to a vet, keep him comfortable. Make sure he has hiding spots, one humid. Make sure his tank temperature is about 85-90 on the warm side, 75-80 on the cool side. Make sure he is hydrated and eating. Besides that there really isn't anything you can do without seeing a vet. Many people use parasite treatments, you could buy some at your pet store. I have heard parazap works well. I belive, if he has parasites, these meds will cause them to come out in his poop. However, if it isn't parasites, these meds can cause unneeded stress on a sick leo. www.drgecko.com is an amazing site, check it out, then take him to a vet. If you can't take him to a vet, there isn't anything you can do for him.

unfortunately the people on the forum can't give you a miracle cure.

Good on you for taking on a sick leo, but also you're going to have to end up paying for the vet bills.

Get a fecal done asap if you can.
Make sure its got enough heat and moist hides.

In all honesty, I love all animals more than anything. When it comes to most people, I could definately do without them. I think that's why I've surrounded myself with animals. I'm turning into the crazy old cat lady (except I've got dogs and lizards) who only talks to her pets.

I think everone I know is sick of hearing about my animals. How about this though, I talk to my animals about my other animals. My boyfriend and I have also developed voices for our animals. This started about a year ago. It's pretty embarasing, we often catch each other doing it in public when we're with our dogs. The voices are now moving on to the leos. I need to get out more.

Lol, I think we're all crazy to some extent. Well at least that's how the rest of the world views us. That's why I love it here so much. I can come here and I'm not the only crazy one with pets coming out my ears. In fact, I'm nowhere near as crazy as most of the people on this forum who have 20, 30, 40... pets. Crazy people are great, the world would be a boring place without us . Se what I mean, I really need to get out more.

Man i wish i had a dog... my ideal dog would be well any but right now i'd love to have a Shiba Inu, Huskie or Border Collie. But like i said i really don't care what kind of dog, anything would do

The one on the left? We think he is actually an elkhoud (don't worry not many people have heard of them. The white one we think is part malamute. We really have no idea what kind of dogs they are. Both are pound puppies. The dark one was found with parvo in a dump when he was two months old. The white one had been through three sets of owners by the time she was only five months old. She is an amazing dog, very people friendly. I really have no idea why she was there so often, we've had her for a year and she's been pretty close to perfect.

Dogs are amazing animals. If my boyfriend was ok with it, I would be happy just getting more dogs instead of having kids.

do you own your own house, if i remember correctly you posted a while back ago about smokers downstairs... if you rent how did you find a place that let you have animals!?

We do rent an old house. I love it, but don't really like the landlord. Today he paid a suprise visit to fix the fan in our bedroom, the house was a disaster, I was in my house coat and not very impressed.

They are first time landlords, so I don't think they really knew what they were getting themselves into when they said we could have pets. At the time we didn't have any pets (except Rex and Tony). The day before we moved in we got Otto and two months later we had Paris, then the frog, the fish and the geckos.

We are still having problems with the smoker downstairs. Lately it has been tolerable, but it's still frustrating. In the winter when I can't open the windows anymore, I'll complain if it doesn't get any better. I'm just to shy to say anything, she's a bit of a snot.
