McGuire's Paper to Be Posted Online? >>>

chris_mcmartin Jul 06, 2004 08:43 PM

I've been coordinating with both Dr. McGuire and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History to try to get his 1996 paper into .pdf format and available online (most likely from his site, but I'll link to it).

Right now the ball is in Carnegie's court--they're consulting amongst themselves. I don't see why they would deny the request; the original Bulletin is out of print, so it's not like they'd be losing money on it.

Keep your fingers crossed!

...like they have done with several other issues. Don't know what the .pdf would do to all the plates the original has. I'd buy a couple. 'Course a net version is definately a good thing too.

Well, Dr. McGuire said he could send me a monograph to convert to .pdf. I'm no publisher, but I'd assume that'll be better than an nth-generation photocopy, and I'd be scanning the stuff in myself, so I could guarantee the scans (and subsequently the .pdf) would be as high-quality as the material I was given.

...of someone who is contemplating downloading a 143-page work with lots of high-res photos in .pdf format over a dialup!
Oh, rub our nose in it, Shameless Owners of Fat Pipes!!

Burn it to CD and mail it to the proles?

LOL

I can get the pub if I want it (at least a photocopy). I'm seeking to get Official Permission to publish it to the web.
