help! sulcata hatchling with soft shell

mykl Jul 06, 2004 08:58 PM

i noticed that one of my 2" hatchlings has been eating less and has become lethargic. he stays in one corner and refuses to move. his eyes are also a bit dry and he won't fully open them. the carapace is quite soft, including the bottom part.

it's fed only with grass and supplemented with calcium. it's kept outdoors in a shaded area. i'm from asia so the temp here is quite warm already. the hatchling is soaked daily.

please help! any tips on what i should do? i don't want to lose the little guy. thanks.

Sulcata Station has a page on what they call "Hatchling Failure Syndrome" which discuss symptoms similar to what you are describing.
Hope he gets to feeling better. I've found the little ones to be nerve-wracking.
