Cham shedding...

funnyman527 Jul 06, 2004 10:28 PM

I'm watchin a friends veiled cham. and he told me that after it's first shed that it'll start to get colors (its a baby male) and today he shed for the first time. Is this true? also is there any special care i need to give him now that he's shed???

thx!

Chams shedding aren't the same as snakes shedding. They need no special care when shedding, but much more direct misting with hot water makes the shed eassier on the cham and also faster. Colours in adults appear brighter after a shed, but in growing babies, the colours appear gradually and might lurch in the direction of colourful after a shed, but theactual colour-getting is gradual.

just curious...what sort of special care do snakes need when they shed? I guess I thought all herp sheds were pretty much the same. Obviously I don't own any snakes

thanks,
lele

I own many reticulated pythons and there isnt anything really special that needs to be done. Other then either soaking them or misting them it isnt really anything different. You just have to make sure they shed thier eye caps properly.

Yes they do, I currently have an albino male lavander phase who is 2 years old and 10 feet, a 4 year old albino purple phase that is 21 feet 4 inches, and a pair that are only 8 months old they are het for albino tiger the male is 4.5 feet the female is closer to 6 feet.

Actually I should have said I had the female for 4 years she was approx. 8 months when I purchased her so that puts her at closer to 5 years old.

My veiled male started showing colors after the second or third shed. If the cham has completely shed, then you dont need to do anything other then the typical 2 or 3 mistings a day. If he still has some skin to shed, then mist him direclty with warm water but dont pull the skin off yourslef.
