Red Ackie-Cage/Care

scincoides Jul 06, 2004 10:38 PM

i am going to buy 4 baby red ackies from rare earth inc. and going to get a vision cage #622 72 in long, 28 in wide and 18 in high. i was just wondering if anyone had any pictures of ackie cage set-ups. also, if anyone had any information on there care and breeding. i have looked at many websites but i would just liek some other peoples opinions. any help would also be appreciated on like what you feed your ackies, hos much and how often. also, any information on heating and UVB/UVA lighting. and anything else you think i should know.

Thanks,
Nathan

Red Ackies are fun. They are right up with my kimberlys in terms of fun. My argus is just a pain. Speaking of him, he scratches open plexi doors and climbs windows, lol.

Really, you could just ask Joe about their care, he will tell you all you need to know and I feel I would only repeat a lot of what he would say. Remember though that some of what he has to say is based on where he lives, like how much he sprays cages, etc.

here is a pic of a basic setup. what is missing from the pic is bulbs, I use banks in most of my cages (two bulbs). the exception is that during the summer (now) i usually turn off one because even two forty watts is too hot at this time. they like diggable dirt and tight spaces.

cheers, andrew

hi i'm also going to get baby ackies soon, but if you want a really good caresheet that tells you basically everything you need to know about taking care of ackies then go to WWW.PROEXOTICS.COM/CARE_SHEETS.HTML also they sell books and supplies for good prices. does your vision cage open from the front? if it does than you need to find another cage because ackies need at least 10" of substrate proexotics.com lists the good kind of substrates. if you want to find a new cage go to the classified cages/heat/light at kingsnake.com Ihope this has helped you and if anyone reads this reply please look at my forum that I posted. thanks
