Balls have such a small clutch, and one guy way back when got a hold of a new morph sold it expensive, buyer bred it, sold it expensive figuring he could make the same $, buyers did the same and so on, and here we are.

Yes I know it's in webmaster's 'shop'.
New people being introduced to the wonderful world of ball pythons every day. I remember my first article I read on ball pythons was the one in Reptiles magazine in 2001. I loved the piebald and spider morphs pictured in the magazine. I thought to myself, "awesome, I'll pick these up at the next reptile show here in San Diego." Heh, I think you know the rest of the story...

youe get some rude comments on this. It is one of the posts that get placed every couple of weeks same question same answers and at the end they are the same prices. Go buy a lobster at hardees for 5.00 with a value meal and you get why they are so expensive....
Market Price...nough said.
And dont get angry not being rude just quick and to the point..if you wont a longer answer do a search for the topic I myself have writtenb long replys and now see why most no longer give long replies...wow this was is turning out longer than expected...lol just got off work (3RDs) and havent slept for a while.

Why is a Mercedes SL 600 priced at $150K when a Mazda Miata is priced at $35K? It is the same for everything. The item that is valued at a higher amount will be sold for a higher amount. Supply and demand. Hell take a look at the Mercedes SLK, when they first came out they were priced by the company/dealers new at $44K. They sold out of them too quickly. The Dealers found that if the cars are titled once they are now considered a used car and can be sold at what ever price they want to charge for them unlike as a new car they can only sell the highest what the Manufacterer suggest. Well the dealers sold them to other dealerships, titled them once, purchased them back, and sold them as used car for the range of $65+kea and sold them just as quickly.
I doubt very seriously that an Axanthic Ball will ever make the $70 price range and that is a good thing because there are still alot of people breeding them that want to recoup their investments. Not to sound rude, but if someone can't afford it, they should just purchase what they can afford and not complain about the other prices.

i have been checking out this forum for awhile and have had the same questions. From the way it looks the only people buying these high priced morphs are--yourself? Where do these snakes make it into someone's hands as a pet. Or is this just a dumb thought. I just don't see where the market is except other breeders. I'm not saying this is bad it was just something that I have ask myself when checking out all of these "expensive" morphs. Some of the morphs just aren't obvious enough for the extra money they command by other breeders.
We haven't been working with ball python morphs long enough to produce enough of them to reach a low enough price for them to become common in the pet trade yet. Albino Burmese pythons when through the breeder only cycle already and due to the much larger number of eggs in their clutches and the more limited demand for such a large python (and an earlier start) they have already reached the pet trade. I expect some ball python morphs will start showing up at mall pet stores (as opposed to specialty snake pet stores) in the next few years. It's just going to take a lot of breeders years of work to produce enough of them. Even then they will probably always be more expensive than Burmese pythons due to the larger demand for a snake of an appropriate size for more pet keepers and of course the greater difficulty in meeting demand with smaller clutch sizes.
What is wrong with a wild type..AKA normal if you want just a pet snake to care for there are plenty of beautiful and variety of normals out there(i hate calling them normals) Anyways having a BP as a joy is still a joy no matter what morph.
And news flash I am not a breeder...I own a pastel as a pet..maybe in future i will breed for the fun of it and trade..I said TRADE the offspring for more other morphs to keep as pets. I bought a pastel because when mixed with other morphs it's awsome. My goal is to own a piebald yep you guessed it just one as a PET.
Now for the kicker if all you want is an inexpensive pet that you can get with a variety of colors and designs check out cornsnakes..no one here is forcing you or anyone else to be stuck with a highend BP morphs.
Noone is going to personally want to get rid of there new morph the PASTAVE or BUMBLEBEE for cheap until they get a good breeding stock.
Now if you want a pretty snake that gets bigger than a corn and requires a bit more care BRB's are beatiful.
It sucks that if you want a piebald for a pet you have to pay mega bucks but once you get it I gaurauntee you treat it as gold..sad but true. its with all things when you buy a really nice car you probably wont just throw your mickey d's on the floor like you may have with your jalopey(sp.)
