picky eaters...

savvgawd Jul 06, 2004 11:32 PM

Well I finally tried to make the switch to rabbits. It's my 7 ft 11 month old male who is an awesome feeder. He pounds down huge rats all the time no problem. So today I try with a small rabbit and he doesnt do anything but investigate. Then I tried rubbing a rat all over it and no go again. Ofcourse as soon as I hang the rat in his cage he whacks it like hes never eaten before. The problem with the rabbit is that my 10 foot adoption is just as picky but with all food. I think the big guy is going into shed soon so I'll excuse him. Any suggestions on how to make the switch or get my adoption eating more? Oh yea I know its the wrong forum but heres a pic of my 1 month old female yellow conda....

You might try giving him a smaller rat, followed by a scented rabbit. Is the rabbit your feeding larger than the rats your usually feeding? If so you may try a smaller rabbit. And it may take a few tries. But good luck, I feel your pain.

Hey do not feel bad. Out of my 3 burms only one of them has switched to rabbits. The other two are rat hounds and will not even look at the rabbits I offer them. Here are a couple of suggestions you may want to try.
Try taking a live rat and when you hold them they will urinate all over. Have them urinate on the nose area of the rabbit you are offering to your snake. This will make the rabbit smell strongly like a rat. If this fails then you can try this other method for a few feedings and see if it helps. First feed the snake a large rat. As the snake is swallowing the last of the rat (when the tail is the only thing left sticking out of its mouth) place the head of the rabbit in the snakes mouth. If the rabbit head is placed deep enough in the mouth then they almost always continue on swallowing the rabbit. Give it a try it really does work. Todd
