i wouldnt let them be together.... iggs are not social animals... it will cause stress on both animals.

That is not true as a rule. I work for a Reptile Shelter that houses all of their Ig's together and have been doing it sucessfully for almost 10 years. They do have a few problem Ig's that must be kept in seperate enclosures, but other than those few... it works out really well.

Here is a link to show how they are housed: http://www.ksreptiles.com/sanctuary_facility.asp?id=6

I would worry about introducing them right now because if the difference in size. The babies and Juviniles are kept seperate until adults and then are let out with the rest of them. I would think with one so small you will be at risk if the larger one doing some damage. I am not saying that their would be a problem, but better safe than sorry.

as a general rule iguanas are solitary animals. this is a fact... males ussually will not get along with each other... are all of those males in those pictures or are they all females? they may be getting along there becasue they have alot of space.

i would suggest not putting them together.. but that is me.

I ve tryed to raise my 4 males together for years until i gave up and started to adopt them out!Its not possible to raise adult male iguanas together! Males igs are extremely territorial and antagonistic towards other males! When one is big and the other is small the big one will scare the little one to death and the little one will not develop properly.Sometimes the smaller one can even stop eating for good! When they are adults the males will fight until they die!
I ve seen juvies igs raised together in petshops where they dont develop the territorial feelings.I ve seen uros raised together in petshops too.Sometimes for several months in a row without fights. But as soon as they arrive in their own cages, on their own space, they become territorial and start to attack each other.I had that problem so many times i cant count! With male igs, male uros, even male turtles!
I think its like people.People can stay together for a short period of time in a hotel without territorial concerns. But as soon as they arrive in their own house the territorial disputes start.

The Iguanas at the sanctuary are both male and female and they all live together in a communal room. It is a large room, about 650square feet and they all live in the rafters and on top of branches and light boxes in the celing. They have their heat and UVB in the celing and the room is kept very humid, it is literally a rainforest in there. All of the Iguanas are fixed prior to living at the shelter and they all get along very well. There are a few that have been singled out due to aggression and they are kept in enclosures instead of free roaming, but that is only about 10 Iguanas compared to the over 60 that live there.

Sam-N-Ella Jul 08, 2004 12:49 PM

All iggys have different personalities and react differently to situations. I agree with the fact that iggs are not sociable animals and can be aggressive towards other iggs that are in their space. However... my Sam-N-Ella (both females) have been in the same enclosure now for about a year or so and they get along fine. Not to say eventually they won't grow old of the company and get aggressive with each other. I am building a huge cage and plan to have it where they can be separated if a problem accurs. There is about a year or maybe two difference in their age. There is an exception to every rule and so far my two iggys are the exception. I don't have them around my other two adult male iggys though with out close supervision. sometimes my two adults can sit right next to each other on the back of the couch just perfectly fine for hours. Then some times Chaos(my male cuban) will just see Boris(my new adult male green iggy) and run after him and try to bite him. I guess it has a lot to do with the mood they're in. Boris will be sitting next to Chaos headbobbing away and Chaos will just be laying there all comfortable not caring a bit. I guess I don't have a suggestion about having your iggys together, but I thought I would just share my experiences. This picture was taken a long time ago, both iggys are a lot bigger now. The little one is still a juvy though.

i think the territorial aspect of it really only occurs in males... females will ussually tolerate each other....

but like you said there are exceptions to everything you read about iggs

Not all iggs read the rule book
