Question's, on Hypo Nicaraguan ???

mbleek448 Jul 07, 2004 12:41 AM

I was wondering? How do you tell young hypo nic's from normal nic's? I've seen some pictures, but they all kinda have the same look when they are younger. I was told that hypo's will have the orange belly then develope the orange tail. Thanks for your help Marshall Mauro

Nicaraguans boas are normally darker, but a hypo is a hypo kinda. This gene can become complicated-- some refer to it as an incomplete dominance. This basically means that there are many ways this gene is expressed. The lack of black equals hypo, but what we do not know in the case of the Nics is how many of the reduced black imports (hypo) is indeed a genetic trait. In other words there is still a lot of work to be done and as more people breed and produce Captive Bred animals that are hypo the more guaranteed lines of hypomelanism there will be in Nicaraguan boas. I hope this helped at least a little. Here is a pic of my hypo nic male from Ben Siegel. However he has not been proven yet!
