BP coming soon, have some last questions.

drewtime Jul 07, 2004 05:05 AM

Hello all, i have recently bought myself a ball python and have been preping the tank for a few days and i have run into some very minor problems and was looking for some adivce on how to fix them. I have a pretty good setup so far(55 gal tank, hide boxs, water bowl, vegitation, climbing branches, and a digital temp/humidity meter.
Since the temp humidity has an option display the min/max, i am able to moniter the max and min temp/humidity during the course of the day. Which bings me to my first question, and that is what is too cool and too hot for a ball python to be healthy. I have been runing some dry tests( no snake in there yet hehe) and the max temp/humidity i got was 96.2 F and 78% humidity. the lowest was 68.F with 58% humidity. I know that BP's live in very hot regions but im not sure what is too hot/cold for their liking. As for humidity if this needs to me changed or kept more constant is there any easy ways i can do this?

Other then those concerns im very excited to get my snake to his new home, which cost me more money then i would like to admit heh. And advice or info on temp/hum and how to change it would be great. Thanks a lot

Very good on your preparations!

This would be a good starting point:

78 degrees for the low ambient temp
88 degrees for the high ambient temp
90-95 for localized hot spot

This should provide a good range for your BP to determine what he or she likes most at any given time.

Thanks a lot for the numbers. However, since my low's for the day were a little off what do i do to change the amount of humidity and temp.

First things first - get the temps where they need to be. Then work on humidity. You may find, that your snake gets adequate humidity. Also, your snake does not need a fixed humidity 24X7.
