best waste absorbing substrate??

jrmiah Jul 07, 2004 08:38 AM

is cypress mulch better at absorbing waste materials then newspaper, I'm asking because I normally use newspaper for convenience, but I am going out of town and wondering if cypress mulch would be better for longer periods??

Aspen works better than newspaper or cypress, but its too damn dry. Cypress is dirty, and does not absorb very well (it will go right to the bottom of the enclosure). If you have a humid room, go with aspen or just stick with the easiest best substrate newspaper.

I agree - Newspaper!

I've tried several others, but keep going back to plain old newspaper. Cheap, easy to clean out, and they DELIVER it right to my doorstep!

I also go down to the newpaper printing place ever few weeks to get the roll ends. the paper is unprinted and works well for snakes you want to keep clean (albinos, etc). For the other snakes (hets, normals) where the the occasional smudginess on the belly doesn't matter, I use the printed stuff.
