Trying something a little unorthodox, breeder loans...

TraceH Jul 07, 2004 08:41 AM

I know it is uncommon to trade snakes around that are worth hundreds to thousands of dollars. But, I have a 66% het pie bald male and a 50% het caramel male, does anyone have any interest in borrowing these, or letting me borrow your female for next seasons breeding efforts? I am looking for 100% hets of both morphs so I can finally prove mine out. If you have any interest please email me, I have plenty of people that can vouch that I am reliable. I am particularly looking for someone I can meet in the Western KY area.

Loans are a little tricky but they are sometimes done. I’ve got 5 females out on loan right now.

However, you will probably have better luck matching females of lesser or equal value to the male rather than the other way around. If I had a for sure het female but couldn't afford for sure het male (generally cheaper than the female) I would want to loan my female out for a for sure het male rather than taking the chance that yours don't prove. Hopefully you can find someone local with big normal females to loan so that you can at least produce a cut of possible het females to try to prove your males with later.

Best of luck. Maybe you will find someone with possible het females (i.e. roughly equal value with your males but then similar genetic females are almost always more valuable than males).

It won't be easy. Even more so because you are talking about very high-end morphs "pieds" "caramels".

Plus you have the males not the females.

I would think ANYONE who is sitting on a fat sassy 100% HET FEMALE pied or caramel, that is in perfect shape to breed would NEVER breed it to male that is 50% possible HET or 66% possible HET.

Anyone who could afford a 100% HET FEMALE for either of these morphs, is sure to atleast have a 100% HET male to go with there female(s).

Maybe not so much the actually morph itself, but for sure atleast a 100% HET male.

The females have to be in tip-top shape before breeding, it's a huge effort for the female. If I was sitting on BREEDING shape HET females from either of these morphs I would rather NOT breed them, until I could use the morph itself, or atleast a 100% HET stud.

I'm afraid you will have to prove them yourself over time.

I know if I had a 100% het female of either of those morphs, I wouldn't even consider loaning them to someone with 50% and 66% het males. Why would anyone?

They would be looking for 100% het males or homozygous males. Why waste a 100% het female on a possible het male? It just makes NO sense for the person with the females.

See what I'm saying?

Now, if it was the other way around and YOU had the 100% het males, I'm sure someone would do a loan with their poss het females.

Good luck though.
