Veild Eggs Hatching out on time ?

scott202 Jul 07, 2004 10:02 AM

I got my first cluch of eggs that should start to hatch out this week or next week all the eggs have grown really big so Im wondering, has anyone ever had the eggs grow really big and still not hatch or go bad and mold, or will they all still hatch out in time.

Major swelling is a sure sign of a near hatching time. You may want to increase the temperature by 1 or 2 degrees F and the humidity should be a little bit higher to encourage hatching. Watch for the tell-tale "sweat" on the eggs, and look for pipping at the ends of the eggs.
You'll have babies sometime very soon!
Get your feeder insects ready and caging should be on standby for when they hatch.
Check the incubator every day for hatchlings.

thanks for the info I know they're close but do you think they could be Infertile if they grow really big I had two brake open and the inside had not grown to full size but they grow all this time and then brake open and nothing. What do you think caused that to happen? If they grow big that means they're fertile right or not can they still grow big and not be fertlile?I know when they're not fertile they usally mold right away and turn bad. You can tell so you take them out and discard them.

Infertile eggs never start to form embyo's so that cant be it ,It could be any thing from a change in tempature to god knows what!I wouldn't worry if its just a few eggs going bad,
a cluth of 80% hatches is a good clutch!!!
p.s. you dont move the eggs do you?

No, we don't move them. I mist them with water every once in a month. I heard you can over water them, & they can mold so it's not that. Maybe it's from me not intentionally shaking the box when I take them out to check them periodically. I'm not really worried too much, I've only lost 3 so far. Thanks for the info
