goofy beardie (help with repcal pellets)....

-ryan- Jul 07, 2004 10:26 AM

so for the past few monthes, I have been feeding a combination of greens, frozen/thawed veggies, and flukers pellets (my grandma got them for me and I didn't want them to go to waste...they are all red..which comes into play later). So I noticed my beardie was eating almost only the pellets from his food, and basically leaving the rest, so I decided to get some repcal pellets, because they're a more balanced diet.

I just put some in today, and went in to check on him, and he has only eaten the two red pellets. There are tons of green pellets and a couple tan, but he's only eaten the red. My question is, how do I get him to eat the other colors? And another question, why doesn't repcal sell an all red version of their pellets? That seems like the color most dragons love doesn't it? Well, I've got another week of feeding these pellets before I can really figure out if he's going to give me trouble with the green and tan pellets, but I'm hoping he'll get the picture.

Has anyone else on here had a goofy beardie like this?

On a side note, I'm in the first few treatments for strongylls with my beardie, and he's seemingly acting fairly healthy, except for being a little lethargic in the morning, but he almost always gets up after I put food in his cage (must be something her got used to over the school year). The only thing I have been worrying about are that his poop is still looking pretty bad. Yesterday it was awful, almost like a big booger, but I'm only in the first month and a half of a three month treatment. When should I expect to see changes in the poop? What are good ways of keeping a steril environment?

thanks.

If you figure that one out post it here. Some BDs only like certain colors. I have some that eat them all, some that only eat green some that wont eat tan... luck of the draw.

Sorry not familliar with those meds but as to keeping things clean I recomend shelf liner and cleaning with Nolvasan or Hexasol daily (after every poop if possible).

I use rep-cal and out of all the pellets theres is the only kind I can get my dragons to eat so go figure? How old is your beardie? Does it chase crickets? string some of the pellets onto a piece of thread and pull them across the cage to see if it will chase them and eat them, thats how I got my babies started on them. You can also mash some of the green and red ones together and see if it will eat them that way. Good luck!

Oolong won't eat anything that isn't green (so far, this applies to veggies as well as the Rep-Cal pellets). Luckily for us, Rep-Cal seems to pack more green pellets than the other colours (which we give to the superworms, who'll eat anything ;D ). I've often wondered why Rep-Cal doesn't offer single-colour packs of their pellets.
