Tail Nips : Help Please

dmlove Jul 07, 2004 10:32 AM

Alright, well a few of my holdbacks had tail nips, and the tail that was nipped fell off. Now, it looks like "gangrene" has taken place, Not really, but the dead part of the tail is spreading up the tail. Is there any way i can stop this? Thanks for the help in advance.

It is not uncommon for the nip to extend up a little bit. As the animal sheds it will grow over sometimes discoloring. To be safe, you could try neosporin.

I would keep a close eye on it. If the nipped end get infected it can run it's way up the tail pretty quickly and lead to some bad things. Seen it happen. If it spreads further up the tail may want to get to the vet, to have infected area amputated.
