I've been looking for a cricket source, and contemplating cricket storage after getting a Tokay. We first got a Leopard Gecko, and he eats leisurely, so we never had to get more than a dozen crickets a week, his staple being mealworms. But the Tokay ignores the worms and voraciously devours the crickets - which is fine.
The problem is, I'm having to get a couple dozen crickets two or three times a week now, so I need a larger supply. After a suggestion, I've been looking at ordering crickets online in bulk. Most places won't sell less than 500 at a time. Flukers has 250. And another places sells 100, but they cost almost as much (7.99 for 100 not including shipping) as from Petco, if not more. The logistics of housing 500 small crickets is a little too much for what I'm doing. I guess I have two questions. Does anyone know of a feeder cricket supplier that will sell me 100 or 200 crickets at a time? Also, has anyone successfully bred a 100 or so cricket colony? It would be great to not have to replenish the supply, just feed the crickets, but that's not necessary.
Thanks,
Rory
