My male savannah monitor, Trouble, has been having some problems. He throws up everything he eats. I usually feed him two frozen/thawed mice once a week. Sometimes he gets crayfish as a treat, because they're his favorite food. He has been throwing up nearly every time since August. I have him in a 6 foot long converted horse trough. The middle of the top is a big wooden door, and the ends are screened so I can put lights on top. On one end he has a full spectrum UV bulb and a 100W white light. Those are on for roughly 12 hours each day. On the other end is a 150W red bulb. That is on constantly. I don't know my exact temperatures because I've lost my thermometer for the time being. He has a few inches of peat moss for substrate, a cork bark hide, a cat litter water pan, and some other decorations. I took him to the vet last week, and the vet said he had no idea what was wrong with him, as do I. He does not act differently (no more skittish or lethargic than usual, no more aggressive, no signs of pain in specific body areas). He has not lost a lot of weight just from looking at him, but I don't have a sensitive enough scale to weigh him with. I had the doctor draw blood and test it for cell counts, etc. He said everything looks fine except that Trouble is borderline anemic, but he said that even that is debatable. The cell count for anemia was on the lower end of the acceptable range. I haven't brought in a fecal sample because he does not poop since he has nothing in him. The doctor suggested that we could do X-rays, a stomach wash (which is very invasive and he would have to be put under for), or general dewormers. It's been a while since I've read up on reptile medicine, but I remember reading that reptiles do not do well under anesthetic, and that giving an animal medicine it doesn't need can hurt it more than help it. I'm kind of skeptical on the stomach wash and dewormers because of this, but I opted to try for deworming. My appointment is for tomorrow afternoon. If anyone has any suggestions... anything I may be missing... please let me know. I don't know how old Trouble is because his growth is severely stunted from the "care" he received before I got him, but he's roughly two feet long including his tail, which has been broken off about halfway down. I'll try to get some pictures of him and of the cage as soon as possible. Thanks.
Heather
