Corn Snake Eating Troubles

linx Jul 07, 2004 05:02 PM

I'm not sure how old my baby snow corn snake is. But it hasn't eatten for almost 3 weeks now. The pet shop that I bought it from said they did get it to eat a dead pinkie before so I don't know whats wrong. I've tried feeding it in a small container with just the pinkie. Tried feeding it under it's hiding spot in its cage. I just don't know what else to do, please help!! I really don't want to return the snake back to the pet shop, this is my first snake and I've been dieing to get one. It's still active and curious when held.

Things to try (before force feeding)
Different times of day (mornings or evenings are most likely to work)
Pricking the thawed and warmed pinkie in the head to get some of the brain matter out)
Misting the small container (we use old cottage cheese tubs with a paper towel liner). Put this on the heat pad so it is warm and humid inside.
Leaving the snake in the cottage cheese container with the mouse and undisturbed for a few hours or overnight.
Dipping the mouse in chicken broth. (Sounds weird, but it's worked on occasion)
Trying a live pinkie.
Holding the snake in one hand while teasing it with the pinkie (use chopsticks to avoid getting your smell on the pinkie which will confuse the issue) to get it to strike in irritation. Then freeze, and it may realize what it has it its jaws and go from there.
Good Luck

About how long should I start worrying about the corn snake? How long can a baby corn snake go with out eatting with out and future problems?
