Sick Veiled Chameleon

marsman42123 Jul 07, 2004 06:13 PM

We have a 5yr. old female. Went on vacation 3 weeks ago. She was fine when we left, but when we returned a week later she had stopped eating. She is getting more lethargic by the day and yesterday she could barely hold on to the branch anymore. I have tried to locate a vet in the area. All are willing to take a look, but they admit it is not their field. Any ideas of what to do would be so very appreciated!

I'm no expert so look for other opinions, but maybe I can help with a vet. I have linked you to a listing of vets and herp societies by state - though I would assume if there was a herp vet in your area the other vets would direct you.

I don't think they live that long and females can go sooner if they have been bred a lot. Did someone take care of her while you were away? She may not have gotten adequate hydration which can cause some organ problems especially in an older cham. So like I said, get more expert opinions and hopefully you can locate a vet.

p.s. if you re-post be sure to include the care she got while you were away.

I second what lele said. She is pretty old. We would need to know what her care was before and during your vacation. Even a subtle change in her care could cause some lurking problems to show up due to age.
