Anyone have a problem with agressive females? (more)

ran_dogg Jul 07, 2004 08:58 PM

I have 2 geckos that have been housed together for that last 6 months or so. They are approximately the same size, age, and I am certain that both are female (believe me, i checked multiple times). Up until the last month, everything seemed fine between the two. I am starting to see signs of agression out of one of the two ladies (we'll call her gecko A) towards the other (gecko B). gecko B has been hiding more than normal, and has a few small "scuff" marks (see the link below), and I witnessed gecko A nipping at gecko B's tail. Needless to say, they are both separated now. I am just curious if anybody else has had this problem and if they have any thoughts on the matter. Thanks.

Gecko A sounds like she's the dominent one in the tank. It might just be a personality conflict. Believe me it happens. One of my females is that way. She wont go with any one not even males during breeding season. One other thing what size is the tank. They might just be too crowded.

yeah, I used to have three girls in a 45 gal tank. One was older and a little bigger, and I knew she was a bit of a bully, but there was enough room that it wasn't a problem until I started breeding. When those hormones kicked in, they all got aggressive with each other, even the smaller ones started nipping @ the big one. Big girl (Goldie) is a retired breeder, so I took her out and now she lives with the boy, and the other two girls are much happier.
