Speckled cal. king

sgg12899 Jul 08, 2004 10:10 AM

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this kind of pattern before on cal kings. I produced 4 of them this year out of a clutch of 17. I have another clutch incubating.I have been producing the regular variety of banana kings for about 5 years now. I purchased some unrelated banana cals. from Rob & louise stevens in louisiana a couple of years ago to add some new blood to my stock. I bred them for the first time this year to my original stock from northshore reptiles. and 4 speckled hatchlings popped up in the females clutch. The male crossed to the female northshore stock produced regular varieties. I've never seen cal. kings with this pattern. but others may have. I'm just trying to figure out if I have something unique here or if this is a pattern that is sometimes seen in cal. kings. Thanks Gordon

They can vary from a solid black dorsal stripe to more of a spotted "stripe" to a more speckled dorsal stripe as what you posted, and then the more extreme ones have hardly any pattern. Yours aren't the only ones out there but they are still beauties for sure.
