Hi Im new to the boards and a new RES owner. His name is Harris and a week or so ago he started doing this weird thing when he's in the water. He starts spinning around real fast, flipping himself over, and when he gets back to normal he archs his neck real far and his throat gets really fat. I have no idea what hes doing...does anyone out there know? Thanks in advance for your help.

How big is the turtle? how deep is the water? what is the temperature of the water?

Harris is about an inch, inch and a half big right now, so he's still a baby. Water temp is about 70 or so, maybe lower. The heater just broke and im buying a new one tonight and the depth is about 2 inches deep. Does all that matter?

Yes. I was trying to see if you had a three inch long turtle in one inch of water. He might have been working his front half up the side of the tank and flipping on his back then. But this is not the case with such a small guy.

Your water temperature is a bit too cold. You should be at a minimun of 72 degrees. Does he have a basking area and a basking/heat lamp over it?

You could even fill the tank 1/2 full for him at least and get some good filtration in there for him.

Is he gaping at all (sticking his neck straight up and just sitting there with mouth open?).

Sorry so many questions but That's the only way we can find out if he has some kind of a problem that may need veterinary attention.
