Chameleon Cage screen help

Melisondra Jul 08, 2004 01:29 PM

I have been trying to build a chameleon cage this summer but I have had problems with the screening. Some people say the PVC coated cloth is the best but I cant seem to find it anywhere.
What have you used to build your chameleon/lizard cages? Will the regular 1/2 inch galvanized work? I thought that the metal screening was bad for them or could cause problems.

If anyone has any info on the best type of screening to use I would appreciate it! Im about to just buy a cage ^_^

Half inch galvanized can be pretty rough on their feet. I like nylon chicken mesh, it's not rough should be more readily available than the coated wire. It's green nylon and has fairly thick web IE: 3mm so it gives good purchase to their feet without be dangerous and comes in 4' widths by what ever length rolls. The only drawback to it is the diameter of the mesh about 3/4" so would not be practical for babies or pygmy chams. This mesh combined with a PVC tubing framework makes a lightweight, portable, water proof cage.

Hope this helps.
