New cage help..painting

dmlove Jul 08, 2004 01:47 PM

Well im building get another cage for the dragons, as they just keep getting more spoiled. I have elaborated on each one, making them look better, and for this one, i have used wood filler and so to cover it up i painted the cage with wall paint. I checked the "ingredients" and it didnt have anything that looked harmful such as iron or zinc or whatever like it used to, just some calcium carbonate and other things. I know most of you wouldnt know if its safe unless you know the exact ingredients, but what should NOT be in it? Do i need to coat the paint with something or do you think it would be alright? Thanks all

Here is the rule of thumb I always use: If it is safe enough to paint your babies nursery, it's safe enough for reptiles.

The main thing with paints, or any finish for that matter, is to let it thouroghly cure and off-gas before putting animals in. Further, I always use water based products instead of oil based products. Far less odor, easier clean-up, faster drying time, can't beat it.
Hope this helps,
Paul Kemes
